The Wishlist Factory
For the first time this year, I had the privilege of joining the prestigious project called the Wishlist Factory. I ticked all the conditions and could finally actively participate. Maybe you’ve already heard about it from my social media. The program connects designers with artists who draw illustrations. Each participating designer can choose only one single picture and then commits to converting it into a pattern within the next two months.
I managed to get a hold of the blackcurrant illustration created by Marina Vovnenko. You can take a look at her other works on this link.
New helper
I quickly got rid of my anxiety and worries about how I’ll handle it thanks to my new helper – the HUION Kamvas Creative Pen Pro 13 GT-133 graphic tablet. It makes my work incredibly easier. The blackcurrant remains for now the biggest project that I tackled with it and I highly recommend it, if you’re considering its purchase.
Colour selection
I didn’t quite like the first colour selection, so I went and picked the colours under daylight conditions for them to go together well. Although I contemplated lighter shades at first, especially for the black fruit, in the end I went for deeper shades of black and blue. The same thinking was behind the leaves. Finally, I selected colours that you can see in the pictures from the process in my gallery. I think I made the right decision and the colours really match well and give the pattern a realistic appearance.
If you like my work and you’d like to learn more, you can read about pattern creation on my blog. All the patterns are available in my online store and the blackcurrant will soon be up there too.
I’ll let you know once the product is final and available for purchase.
